Ask the patient to open the mouth, and inspect the throat with at good torch and tongue depressor.

1. If the tonsils are red and inflamed with tender tonsillar lymph nodes below the angle of mandible, then it is acute Tonsilitis.
2. If the entire throat i.e posterior pharyngeal wall is inflamed, then it is acute pharyngitis.
3. If there are inflamed rough granules over the posterior pharyngeal wall, it is granular pharyngitis (Chronic)
4. If you see a white patch anywhere in the throat suspect ‘Diptheria’ and refer immediately
